WE ONLY HAVE ONE PLANET, EVEN THOUGH WE SOMETIMES LIVE AS THOUGH WE HAD MANY. FOR OVER 100 YEARS, INDISKA HAS BEEN A COMPANY WITH OPERATIONS MAINLY IN INDIA. WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND ALSO BE A PROFITABLE COMPANY IN THE FUTURE. WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO CREATE JOB OPPORTUNITIES THAT LET PEOPLE WORK WITH DIGNITY AND ALSO RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT.

TAKE CARE OF OUR PLANET

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY IS BASED ON THE GENERAL INSIGHT THAT THE EARTH'S RESOURCES ARE LIMITED AND THAT NATURE'S ABILITY TO HANDLE THE BURDEN PLACED ON IT BY MAN'S ACTIVITIES IS ALSO LIMITED.

Our environmental philosophy leads the way throughout the whole supply chain to reduce our impact on climate change.

WE TRY TO THINK HOLISTICALLY

In every step, from design to finished product, it is INDISKA’s ambition to do what we can in the short-term and the long-term to contribute to sustainable development, both at home and with our suppliers. We are humbled by the challenge that this involves. Our long-term ambition is to work to reduce environmental impact throughout the entire value chain. It starts on the drawing board and includes all areas of production, transport, packaging, shops and recycling. Our philosophy is to create faster change and positive development through presence and active commitment.

As a company in the textile industry, water issues in general, and the management of water and chemicals in production, are very important and we are engaged in many areas. Read more here. On INDISKA’s continuing journey, we will work to minimize the creation of waste and promote both reuse and recycling in accordance with the waste hierarchy.

We want to promote a circular system for worn-out products in which they are primarily reused and then recycled in a system that is as simple as possible for everyone to adhere to. Recycled material is valuable for the textile industry if it can be returned to production in a systematic way, which is something we see as the challenge of the future. Read more about recycling textiles here.

Our efforts to increase the proportion of sustainable materials is ongoing. Bamboo, recycled glass, organic cotton and modal are some of the materials we work with, and new, especially recycled materials, will play an increasingly important role.

In our efforts to reduce environmental impact throughout the value chain, reduction in carbon emissions is another important element. Where possible, our stores are operated by electricity from hydro power. Today, our transports take place by sea, as far as possible, but there are always improvements that can be made in everything from logistics to the emissions associated with production. Often, this demands good planning and our goal is to minimize the number of cargo shipments by air.

In addition, we want to develop products with a sustainable design and good quality, and we want to constantly increase knowledge about what sustainable materials are, and also how consumers can contribute to reducing environmental impact. We also want to protect and enhance knowledge regarding the traditional methods that often lie behind our products.

We are working to reduce the proportion of chemicals and adhere to Textile Importers’ chemical guide as well as perform random checks on all our products. Read more about how we work with chemicals here.

Although we have products that are labelled with different certifications, we believe in one entity, where everything we make is produced under fair conditions, with consideration given to the environment, social issues and ethics. We have come a long way but will never rest when it comes to sustainability issues.
